Climate Law in our Hands – A Candidates’ Brief

Summary

BC communities face a rising tide of climate costs. Prior to the 2018 municipal election, West Coast Environmental Law has produced Climate Law In Our Hands: A Resource for Local Government Candidates.

This resource invites people running for local government to discuss how they will minimize the risks of those costs to their taxpayers and what steps can be taken to hold the fossil fuel industry accountable for a share of those costs. In this day and age it is fiscally irresponsible for elected officials to unquestioningly pass climate costs on to their taxpayers and insisting that fossil fuel companies pay a share can help fight climate change by giving those companies a financial incentive to start working for a more sustainable future.
